On April 7, 2024, Guangzhou Aion-Didi Technology Co. Ltd., a new joint venture founded by Aion and DiDi Autonomous Driving on a 50:50 basis , obtained a business license. It plans to launch the first commercial L4 model in 2025, utilizing the strengths of both sides and deeply integrating their mature experience in NEV manufacturing and autonomous driving.
This is the first joint venture established by a L4 autonomous driving company and automaker in China for the purpose of developing a Robo-taxi to be put into mass production.
The first autonomous vehicle to be jointly developed by the two companies is positioned as a crossover SUV. It is built on Aion’s AEP3.0 exclusive high-end pure electric platform and X-soul advanced electronic and electrical architecture, and is equipped with a full set of technical solutions for fully autonomous driving software and hardware, a safety redundancy system, and the latest generation of in-cabin entertainment for unmanned travel offered by DiDi Autonomous Driving.
The first batch of mass-produced models will be fully adapted to the Huiju Port, the autonomous operation system for DiDi Autonomous Driving. In the future, tens of thousands of vehicles will be put into use in batches, and will be connected to DiDi’s mobility network to provide users with safe, comfortable and cost-effective autonomous travel services in conjunction with traditional vehicles. In the future, Aion-Didi Technology will also cooperate with GAC Group and DiDi’s investees in order to commercialize R&D and jointly accelerate the progress of the industry.
Aion has mature intelligent driving technology and capacity for large-scale production, while DiDi Autonomous Driving has leading technical strength in the autonomous driving industry and a wide range of ride-sharing scenarios. The joint venture established by the two will not only have advanced autonomous driving technology, but also excellent capabilities in cost control, mass production, and reliability assurance.
